"Cancellation of prostate operation"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Urology

(as a relative),

My husband was due to go into hospital for a prostrate operation, he is 74 yrs old and is desperate to have knee replacement surgery but he has been advised by the orthopeadic consultant he saw that is advisable to have his prostrate operation first to avoid infection (from his superpubic catheter) & rejection of replacement knees hence its urgent to get the prostrate operation asap. We were given no explanation as to why the operation has been cancelled or another date offered.so how long must he wait for another appointment?

If its not possible for him to have the operation at the Pilgrim could he be given a date somewhere else? ? He is fast coming to the conclusion that he is being given the run around and being an OAP that he doesn't matter.....would appreciate your comments asap (and another appointment for his operation preferably asap in other words during next couple of weeks.

The name you have used in your posting; 'fed up and let down' says it all and I am extremely sorry for your experience. I am also sorry that I didn’t not get the chance to respond to this sooner - I am hoping that your husband has now received his rescheduled date for his surgery (or perhaps even more that he has had it done?) If not please can you contact me directly at: jennie.negus@ulh.nhs.uk and provide me with some more details and I will personally chase this up for you. Please be assured that age has nothing whatsoever to do with how operations are scheduled; we do unfortunately cancel them from time to time for a variety of reasons but such decisions are not taken lightly and rescheduling them is a priority. Thank you for leaving your story here at Patient Opinion and once again please accept our apologies and pass them onto your husband for us too and do get in touch with me if things are still not resolved.
