"Very positive experience."

About: Harrogate District Hospital

Anything else?

I had a couple of experiences at Harrogate hospital running up to a cholecystecomy. On the first instance I was seen at A&E. I was seen promptly, the staff were wonderful, very understanding and made sure I was 100% happy before leaving.

During an overnight stay I found one negative while having my details taken down by a nurse. She asked me if I was a registered organ donor, to which I relplied I was, she then asked what I would be donating, I told her I would donate everything. To this she replied "oh no, there will be nothing left of you for the Lord". I thought this was highly inappropriate in a place where you would expect to be encouraged to be an organ donor. I felt her religious opinions were not helpful or necessary.

My stay at Harrogate hospital during my Cholecystecomy was excellent. Everyone from the Surgeons, the Anaesthetist and the Nurses treated me with respect and dignity. Although the staff were very busy in the ward they did their upmost to ensure I was comfortable and pain free. Thank you.

Thank you for your feedback, which we greatly appreciate.

I am pleased that you found the care you received to be of a high quality, which is what we always strive for.

I am pleased that you were asked about organ donation, as we are encouraging patients and their families to think about this option. However, we are very aware that this needs to be done with utmost sensitivity and I would like to apologise for the inappropriate comment that you say was made by the nurse.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us. If you would like to follow up any aspect of your experience in more detail, please contact our dedicated Patient Experience Team on (01423) 555499 or email thepatientexperienceteam@hdft.nhs.uk

Yours faithfully
