"Appalled with delay in care at Fairfield hospital breast unit"

About: Fairfield General Hospital / Breast surgery Oldham PCT Royal Oldham Hospital / Breast surgery

(as the patient),

I was recently seen by a doctor at the Breast Unit at Fairfield, Bury, regarding a breast lump. He had a quick feel and said "hormonal, take evening primrose oil". That was it. I said I had pain in the lump all the time and he said "yes yes, take evening primrose oil. I will refer you for a non urgent scan, it will be about 8 weeks."

The scan appointment came from Royal Oldham 3 weeks later and the staff the could not have been more caring or considerate. I had a scan, a mammogram and was booked in for a core biopsy the next day. I am now having a traumatic 5 day wait to find out if the lump, which is definitely not a cyst, is cancer.

I think the doctor at Fairfield should be struck off.
