Anything else?
I'd always dreaded being hospitalised, so when I was told I needed a new hip my heart sank.
Then I was offered the Nuffield. From the first appointment with my Consultant (an early evening one) easy free parking outside, friendly receptionists, no wait, staff that smiled and said hello in the corridor, I knew this was going to be as ok as it possibly could be. All my worries about it went, and following the pre-op assessment I was mentally prepared for it all. I had time to make any recommended changes to my house and do things I wouldn't be able to do for several weeks so that all was ready for my return from hospital. I was all set and looking forward to getting it done.
The operation went very smoothly and I felt in very safe and caring hands. The first day or two was quite painful and difficult but this was more than made up for by the kind, humorous and caring attitude of all the many staff, and their assurance that things get better by the day. The peaceful room and the extremely good food ensured all the rest and nourishment I could have asked for. There was a very good choice so that I could ensure I had the high protein diet I needed, generous helpings, and a good choice of soft drinks and beverages with polite and friendly service. Always a jug of fresh water to hand too. It was great having a TV/radio but I prefered reading or having a sleep and resting between doing exercises and using crutches.
I've heard some people prefer a noisy ward with lots of other people around and little or no privacy, so if you're one of those people then this won't be for you!
The way in which I have made a very good and speedy recovery must be testimony to the skill of my Consultant, the Anesthetist, the Physios and all the many nursing staff. So a big thank you to all of them. I was quite sad to be going home as I'd felt so secure and well cared for by all the lovely staff at the Nuffield Plymouth.
