I have heard that the UK lags behind in early diagnosis. This does not surprise me.
I have recently had experience of two GPs whose manner was rude and offhand. I was not encouraged to voice my concerns nor to explain the range of symptoms which I had. I think this is is partly a matter of time. They do not allow enough time to give patients the opportunity to air their concerns each in their own way.
However, it is also a matter of the GPs' manner with patients, which in some cases seem far from compassionate. If they have received training in communication skills, I believe many of them are not applying this to their consultations.
