I visited a friend in Darwin ward recently in Cornhill Hospital Aberdeen.

I cannot fault the staff there but my main concern is the decor and condition of the hospital. The lounge and carpets stank of nicotine. The chairs were not of a good standard not like a friendly home situation. The paint work needed redoing and generally there was a sense that the hospital felt neglected.

I felt that any person needing psychiatric care would feel even more worthless and neglected.

If the House is not in order, what about the inhabitants?

The service concerned has provided the following response:

Thank you for your kind comments about our staff. We would like to assure you that although the decor and soft furnishings are not to the standard we would wish, staff do continue to deliver the best service they can.

We are exploring funding options to refurbish the area however resources are scarce and our main priority is to ensure that clinical areas have the staffing and skill mix required for quality care.
