"Respect and kindess at Hope hospital - but problems with food and parking"

About: Salford Royal / General medicine

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Hope Hospital as an emergency following a slight stroke. I did not want to go as my husband is 88 years of age and I have not left him alone since 1973, when I had a short stay in Withington Hospital. I was made comfortable on L2 Ward (Ladywell) and treated with great respect and kindness by all staff from the cleaner upwards to the consultant. They made certain I did not leave until they were certain I was well enough to do so. I cannot praise them enough.

The only things I did not like was the meals (I did not get what I had requested and I never was able to get sandwiches for supper instead of a cooked meal which was too much for me)

Apart from that the distance from the car park to the ward was almost impossible for my husband to cover which was quite upsetting for us both.

Just the same I would not hesitate should I need to go into Hope again.

The after care was very much appreciated and unexpected.

Many thanks for your comments and we’ll pass on your thanks to the staff on L2. We are sorry to hear that your journey from the car park was difficult. We do offer shuttle buses that take patients from the car park to any entrance. We are also sorry to hear about your experience of the hospital food. We do offer a wide range of meals and try to cater for everyone’s needs. We will send your comments to the ward sister for her attention.
