My son hurt his finger and had to have his tendons looked at. We thought we were seeing a doctor to have x-rays and talk about it, but instead - without asking us - we were told we were in for surgery later that day. Huh. We figured it was all for the best, so went along with it and went to the Peanut Ward. The nurses and other doctors who dropped in were excellent. Then we were told surgery wouldn't be until the evening. Then at 7.30 pm that we had been postponed and in for the night. OK, we thought. Free pizza, ok. Uncomfy night and 6.00 am wakeup with cream smeared on my sons veins. No food for me, so vending machine chocolate; no food for son as surgery. Freeview TV till 2.30 pm. Now he's off to get sent to sleep. I watch, say bye, then back to the ward. 3 hours of bad TV again. 5.40 I see him in the recovery ward. He's fine, the doctors talk to us and explain everything very well. 8.15 pm he's back to normal, we ask if we can go and ask about train times. Next train to London is 10.30 pm so no connection possible, so another night in the ward. Cheeseburger from vending machine, pretty bad. Leave 8.45 am and finally get home after 6 hours travel. Would have been fine and well prepared if we'd known surgery was on option. So left friday 7.45 am for a quick appointment, got back sunday 2.30 pm. Phone and make sure you know how long things might take! Thanks to everyone on Peanut Ward, you were all great.
