"Children's a+e and f63"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

Anything else?

My first visit was on Tuesday to children's a&e with my 4 year old daughter, Ishe was covered in a rash and weeping areas (infected exzema) They were very busy that night but I feel they didn't do the necessary checks. i.e they didn't look under her clothes, didn't take any swabs etc. They gave me one type of medicine and sent us home without saying anything but take 5 times a day. After almost 48 hours at home giving the medicine, her rash and weeping was a hundred times worse so I looked online at a whole load of websites including nhs and found that as well as the medicine she had been given she should also have been given antibiotic as a precautionary measure. I took her back to a&e where we saw a different doctor, she was fantastic. She was brilliant with my daughter, making her feel at ease. Straight away she looked at my daughters full body, took swabs asked about her history with skin infections. We were admitted to ward f64 that night. We were made to feel very comfortable there. The staff were brilliant, friendly and informative. They were great with my daughter and all the other children on the ward. The lady who brings the breakfast and changes the bedding etc. was fab and one of the nurses was exceptional. She was absolutely fantastic with my daughter, really helpful, friendly patient and just seemed to have a natural way with children, making my daughter smile and laugh. Thankyou to Sunderland Royal Hospital.

Thank you for your comment. We are sorry that initially your standard of care did not meet that which we would hope to provide and we are currently investigating this. However we are delighted that you had a positive experience on one of our children's wards and we have passed this positive comment to the staff members involved in your daughter's care.
