"Gynaecology department"

About: Luton & Dunstable Hospital

Anything else?

We have found the gynaecology department to be less than satisfactory. We were initially seen by the fertility nurse who was fantastic, and the appointment I booked using the choose and book appointment scheme was cancelled and amazingly the date brought forward. However the same cannot be said for other members of this department. The consultant we were referred to was very dismissive and referred to my husband, who also attended the appointment, as he/him rather than by name. The appointment was based in the gynaecology ward, with a row of seats outside the door with the other outpatients who were awaiting their appointment with this consultant. He opened the door and called for the nurse and loudly asked for her to do a pregnancy test for me, which was insulting enough as we wouldn't have been there is I was pregnant, but having to pass all the waiting patients who knew what test I was having and then passing them again on returning to the room was extremely embarrassing. The nurse then came to the appointment room and loudly broadcast that it was negative, loud enough for the patients sat outside to also hear.

When we asked if there was anything we could do, supplement wise, to assist our conditions the consultant stated 'whats the point in making you work if he doesn't work, thats just a waste of time', and constantly referred to my husband as taking steroids for muscle gain, even though he has never touched steroids in his life.

We had an appointment sent to attend another appointment however the letters are only ever addressed to me, which makes it difficult for my husband to take time out of work when he does not have an appointment letter and when querieing this, I have been told that if I attend the appointment alone, the consultant would not be able to give me the results we are waiting for as they are my husbands results and not mine, still the letter is for an appointment for me and not him. I have today received a letter stating that the appointment is cancelled and reschedule for later in April however it is now in the middle of the day rather than at the beginning of the day as the previous one which makes getting out of and then returning to work difficult. When I rang to reschedule it, the next appointment offered is at the end of July.

Not impressed with their lack of sensitivity of the situation, changing of appointments and not making them at the same time and the rudeness and lack of respect from the consultant.
