"A long wait to go through for surgery"

About: Countess Of Chester Hospital

Anything else?

Attended the case unit for a pre-booked surgical proceudre.

What I never understand is why they make patients wait several hours before calling you through for surgery. Can't the list be planned in advance by hospitals? E.g I had to come in at 8:00 am but wasn't called through to have the surgery for more than 6 hours as I was last on the elective list that day of routine pre-planned operations. Starved from midnight and a long nervous wait with not a lot to do to consume time, it is just too long for patients. As the operation only took 30 minutes this does seem excessive and then discharged home virtually straight away after the operation to free up a bed.

On the plus side I was given medication on discharge and staff were pleasant and seemed efficient.
