"Need for prompt analgesia not understood by nursing staff"

Having had several operations, staying on ward C31, it appears that nurses poorly understood my needs as a patient for prompt pain relief. Indeed it is, I feel, sometimes almost as if I was not believed that I needed pain relief now, and not at some vague time in the future when the nurse feels it more convenient to dispense the tablets. Intervention by my consultant, and instruction to the nurses to provide immediate pain relief after a ward round, left me waiting in great pain for nearly 4 hours - despite repeated requests by me. The nurse was more interested in taking down my IV pain relief immediately and correctly taking into custody the remaining morphine, than providing the pain relief my consultant had asked for to replace the IV analgesia. The priority should be patient care and comfort but this is not so on this ward. Yes they are very busy but this is where an apology is not enough.
