"Poor care for my mum at Royal Bolton"

About: Royal Bolton Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

My mum was a patient in the Royal Bolton hospital with a large gall stone trapped in the bile duct. I was told she was having a procedure done the day that I arrived, so I helped to get her gowned up ready to go to have it done.

I left my mum at 9am all ready to go, but no-one came for her and so she was left all day without any food or drink, having had no operation. I came to visit her in the late afternoon and couldn’t believe that a whole day had been wasted, as her condition was deteriorating.

She was later moved to the High Dependency Unit because her condition had gotten so bad having not had the operation. Eventually, we moved her to a private hospital, where the operation was done and she finally was able to make a gradual recovery.
