"Disgusting hospital!"

About: Royal Sussex County Hospital

Anything else?

This is my local hospital, and every time myself or my loved ones have had to go here, we have left feeling appalled at the lack of care given to us. There are so many incidents that 3000 characters isn't enough to describe how horrific its been. Something has to be done about the lack of care or respect for patients, people are being left in filthy conditions, my partner had a slipped disc in his back but was turfed out of his bed to make room for a patient with a mouth problem (and his condition was made worse because of this). My elderly nan was left in a pool of her own blood all morning after her drip came out of her arm, the first any staff knew of this was when we went to visit and complained about it.

My brother-in-law has just been in for surgery for a burst abscess on his bowels. One hour after surgery they kicked him out of his bed, put him in the staff cloakroom, and forgot about him! After 7 hours with no food or drink (because they forgot), they gave him 2 weeks worth of dressings (apparently he's supposed to keep these sterile in a domestic house!) and told him to go to his doctors every day to have his dressings changed. In their words: "A doctor won't come to your house because you're a young man and can get about. Normally we would organize a repeat appointment with your doctors surgery, but its a Sunday so they're probably closed. You'll have to organize that yourself." Yes he's 18, but he can't walk. He can't sit down & thus cant use the bus. He doesn't drive. How the hell is he meant to get to the doctors every day?!? They just don't seem to care, or want to help.

We will be launching a huge formal complaint against the hospital, and we're looking at legal action.
