"confusion over referral"

About: Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics Telford referral and quality service (TRAQS) The Princess Royal Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

Saw a doctor at Strictly health centre at the end of August. She did not know why I was having so much pain in my back, so she told me to take pain killers and she would refer me to have an xray.

After more than two weeks, still with no appointment, I returned to Dr Harper for more pain killers and asked the receptionist to chase up why I did not have an appointment.

Telford Hospital phoned me telling me they had sent a letter. Did not receive it but have had plenty of letters from other hospitals before! So we made an appointment then, which was another 2 weeks 3 days later, this was the first available one. Said a letter would be sent (though no letter arrived) and I went to xray in early Oct.

Later in October I went to Dr Harper for my results, which showed I needed to go to Gobowen for more tests. I was given an appointment for the end of Nov (I was told there was a long wait for Gobowen) so I expected to wait. I think the wait from seeing the doctor.

Waiting from the end Aug until end of Oct for a result of xray is too long. My appointment at Gobowen was excellent, we did not wait, staff great, we were impressed clean efficient and friendly.

Thank you for taking to time to provide feedback following your referral.

I am sorry to hear that your recent wait for an appointment was longer than we would have hoped for.

TRAQS has been developed to assist patients in making a Choice of where they want to go for their first out patient appointment. From the information you have provided it seems that your original Choice was PRH. I am sorry to hear that you did not receive the appointment letter sent out from PRH and that this lead to a delay in your being seen. Unfortunately TRAQS has no control over the wait for xray appointments as we deal only in first out patient appointments with consultants/clinicians.

It is always encouraging to hear of positive experiences patients have at a particular hospital as in your case with RJAH

If you wish to discuss the issues you have raised relating to your experience at PRH your first contact should be the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) who will be happy to discuss your concerns.
