Anything else?
My mother and I attended the Day Surgery Unit yesterday for the first time for my father to have a surgical procedure and although his treatment was without any problems and the care the staff gave him was satisfactory, the care of myself and my mother was not After he left the waiting room at 12pm to begin the process of preparing for his surgery my wother and I were never spoken to by any member of staff during the long hours that we waited for him. His procedure was meant to begin just after 1pm, however he was not operated on unitl 6pm and eventually left the unit just before 8pm. During our many hours of waiting I asked the receptionist what was happening to him and was only told that there were delays, evenually after 6 hours of waiting a nurse approached us and informed us that he would have his procedure after 6pm. Myself and my family are extremely concerned that a patients family could be ignored for such a long time and receive no reassurance of their loved ones wellbeing. What has happened to the nursing staff ,it would appear that they have forgotten their Florence Nightingale Pledge for nurses as regards caring for a patients relative.
