"Confused process to access Mental Health Services "

About: Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Child and adolescent mental health care (inpatient)

(as the patient),

Its a long old process of actually getting any decent help when you struggle with mental health through the NHS.

After having a Mental Illness for the best part of 6 years I was given anti-depressants and it was only after I suggested to my GP that I wanted to see a psychiatrist to find out the real root of my problem.

It was a very confused process to get an appointment and I had to make 3 phones calls to chase my case up so I knew what was going on.

I can imagine that this process puts people off getting help, as it does take such a long time, and I almost feel as if my case isn't as important as other illnesses.

Hello

Thank you for taking the time to tell us your experience - I hope you are getting good help now but as you say it should not be difficult to get a referral to services when you need them.

We would like to know more about the problems you had so we can sort them out. If you would be happy to tell us more details off line please let me know and we can make sure that your experience does not happen to anyone else.

Kind regards

Rachael Kenny
