"Poor treatment, uncaring and cold toward unwell 8..."

About: Peterlee Community Hospital

Anything else?

Attended earler today with my little boy who had a swollen and bruised ankle. The pre screening nurse was very uncaring and said that he probably did not have a broken ankle, but if we wanted to wait for a very long time for a Doctor, due to staff shortages, that he may decide to do an x-ray.

She was not prepared to discuss it at all, and seemed to think that because her colleagues were on sick leave and that she had a long queue that this was somehow our fault.

Consequencly we have returned home and if the swelling does not subside we will be going to a different hospital.

Just not good enough folks.

We are very sorry to learn of your experience in our hospital and that it was not of the standard we aim to achieve. We would like to assure you that our nursing staff aim to communicate effectively with patients and it seems that in this instance it was not the case. We do recognise that patients attending our walk in centre can experience some delays and that some extenuating circumstances meant that there appears to have been a staff shortage when you attended. However, any delays should have been fully explained to you at the time and possible treatments for your child should have been made available. Again we would like to apologise for the lack of communication and care your boy received and we hope that he has since made a swift recovery.
