"People with disabilities struggle in hospital"

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital

(as a relative),

My son has recently been in Royal Blackburn Hospital for two days. He is profoundly deaf, has limited speech and often struggles to understand people. Whilst I would like to believe he had the best attention from doctors, he felt very left out of what was happening to him. The results of tests were not explained simply to him, there was no attempt to contact his family, to explain why he was in pain, the results of tests or about medication.

He was left without a hot drink from breakfast time until teatime on both days he was there.

People with disabilities require extra help and assistance whilst in hospital, but obviously it doesn't happen.

I have recently had a problem with the "choose and book" system also, and have heard many terrible stories of people being let down badly by this system.

Patient choice? Well when we get it we will let you know how it works. I was given an appointment for an operation at Burnley, when having filled in a form stating which other hospitals are available, making a choice and excluding Burnley. One expects the form to have been considered, otherwise what is the point? it is a total waste of money and resources.

The nurses are getting stressed with people complaining about this system.
