"Great experience of A & E / Oncology at Stepping Hill"

About: Patient Opinion Stepping Hill Hospital

(as a relative),

My mum was recently admitted to Stepping Hill Hospital via the A&E unit. Whilst there were intermittent waits between seeing doctors and blood tests, etc, the whole process went smoothly. The staff were pleasant, efficient and as accommodating as one can be given the context. Since the original admission my mum has had several stays (B6 & Short Stay Surgical Unit) and the staff have been outstanding, with the exception of one incident in the Bobby Moore Unit which doesn't deserve outlining since I'm sure the member of staff concerned will have been dealt with. In response to an earlier posted comment, we in fact did see cleaners on the Short Stay Surgical Unit and the unit was absolutely pristine. We complimented the cleaner on a job well done. A well managed and effective hospital needs motivated and conscientious staff across the entire job spectrum and everyone appreciates that important, "Pat on the back," and "Thank you." The link nurses who we have dealt with have been outstanding, as have the consultants, doctors, receptionists and other staff too numerous to mention. Our whole family were initially traumatised by my mum's diagnosis but the care, support and, importantly, the time we have been given by Stepping Hill has been first class and it continues to support and guide us through unfamiliar and distressing territory. This website is one way I can express my thanks and gratitude in a public forum, so that a wider audience is aware of the good work that's going on at Stepping Hill. Too often these days we are quick to criticise and take for granted when a good job has been done with no acknowledgement of that fact. Thanks goodness for an NHS and for the staff who work in it and, in this case, for Stepping Hill Hospital. If you have any doubts about legitimacy of the NHS and why we should fight to preserve it, watch the Michael Moore film, "Sicko" and you'll be given plenty to reflect on. Thank you to all.
