"Urgent neurology appointment"

About: Orsett Hospital

Anything else?

I was referred urgently by my GP, and chose Orsett because of it's short waiting list. However, I wish I had just waited now, as I don't think I have ever had worse 'care' in a hospital. The reason for my appointment had caused me a lot of worry and I needed answers as to why this was happening to me. We waited in a very basic waiting area with no communication from anyone as to what was happening 1 and a quarter hours before being called in by a nurse with very little command of the English language, and told to 'sit' , accompanied by a pointed finger. The doctor, without looking at me asked me why I was there, and I didn't even know if they knew anything about me at all. As the symptoms have left me with very low confidence levels I was struggling with the total lack of communication skills the doctor had, and with their strong accent, which my husband couldn't understand at all, and when he asked them to repeat information they told him they had just explained that! The nurse then told me to 'sit there' and pointed to the examination couch, where I had a series of tests but not told why or how I was doing. I felt as if I was in an interrogation, without anyone listening to what I said! Neither doctor or nurse had any compassion or made any eye contact with me at all. The doctor as much as told me that I would get over it and probably just needed rest, without any diagnosis or answers to any of my questions. The nurse then pointed to a form and I was told to 'write this'. I have been sent for an MRI - thankfully not at the same hospital, and when I gave in the form at reception they told me I had been asked to make a follow up appointment which the doctor had not mentioned. The facilities there are very basic and it's like stepping back fifty years, although I'm sure the care was better then! The experience has left me depressed, let down and anxious. Is this really the best this department can do?
