Anything else?
I was appalled by the level of care my 74 year old Grandad received by the majority of nurses and doctors on Gentian ward at King Georges hospital. They ignored us at the desk and used the line of "i've only just come on shift" over and over again.Just not good enough!
The staff were laughing and talking at the desk while patients were crying out for help.
I went to the desk one day to tell them one gentleman needed a bed pan, and they told me to go down the end of the ward and ask) This was not for my relative i might add and being pregnant myself i was not going to run round the ward doing their jobs for them while the two of them sat flirting over the desk at each other (i would happily have helped if they'd actually been working!)
Various patients often fell out of their beds.
One doctor even said "I have other patients!" when asked for some information on my Grandads illness. How rude and unprofessional of them to say that! Unfortunately, i don't have another Grandad.
My Grandad is now no longer with us and spent his last days feeling scared, in pain and generally being ignored. Shaking and groaning in pain.
We had to beg to get him a remote control bed like the others had ( previously he was left on some lever contraption bed out of the ark and was so uncomfortable)
We had to keep asking for nutrition drinks for him as they forgot (before this they were just taking full plates of food away untouched and know one cared patients were not eating)
They just took him off a drip and antibiotics without consulting us.
We had to phone up throughout the day to remind them to give him pain medication as it was clear to us he was in pain but didnt have the strength to tell them himself!
Just awful, i have nightmares every night about what i saw on that ward.
Cold, uncaring and damn rude.
Makes me so terrified of getting old!
"Awful ! Lack of care, privacy and information for..."
