Anything else?
Over the last 4 years I have been under review for a motor neurone disorder at the Hallamshire neurology department. The first neuro I saw was wonderful in every way, but when he realised that my condition was outside his area of expertise I was transferred to another specialist. Although I do not doubt the medical expertise of the next doctor I saw, I was continually treated as if I was an interruption to his more important work, so much so that I asked not to see him any more as I found the consultations upsetting. He would examine me and then tell me the result of my examination by letter, leaving me confused about what was wrong with me and my prognosis. The department refused to transfer me to another neuro and I had to go back through the GP referral procedure, with the upshot that, despite the fact I needed my medication reviewed after 4 months, it took 7 months to see another doctor. This third doctor has now told me that my physical problems are all in my mind whilst referring to wikipedia during my consultation! I am now going to a different hospital for a private opinion on my condition as I have lost faith in the capabilities of the department.
