This is my second knee replacement visit, the previous one was five years ago and the differences are plain to see. My main complaint and fear for this trip was the state of the bathrooms. Previously they were dark, dingy and smelled worse than any public toilets I have visited. I was not looking forward to my stay this time. Now there are new facilities I was so relieved and my anxiety put to rest. At every step of the way the hospital staff from the Nurses, my surgeon, anaesthetist and the catering services were excellent. I was treated respectfully, nothing was too much trouble. I was waited on hand and foot. There will always be difficult patients and those who keep others awake all night. A lady on my ward made sure she remained out of bed and a nurse had to sit with her from 4.30am. Perhaps she could have been put in a wheelchair and taken out to the Nurses station so that everyone else could sleep.I did notice how overworked the nurses were, lots of rushing back and forth and as the patients started to come out of surgery we were ushered at speed to the day wards where patients were also being shunted around. The problem appears to be lack of staff and the discharge procedure. I was officially discharged by my surgeon at 4pm and it took until 4pm the next day to leave. Otherwise the staff could not have done more to make my stay any better. Thank you all for a successful visit
