"Hot water"

About: Leicester General Hospital

Anything else?

On the morning following knee replacment surgery the ward that i was on had no hot water and patients were unable to wash until 11.00 am. Only a miinor inconvenience for me but god only knows how cleaning and other services were carried out.

The 2 Health Care Assistants were fantastic but ran ragged on the ward, far better than the Nurses who did not answer patient calls during the HCA meal break and were slightly aloof.

Surgeon was fantastic and a real gent.

Overall, stay was uncomplicated but feel that more HCA should be employed given patient numbers. Some of the Nurses should be more closely supervised so that they spend less time at the admin station talking.

Hi Bonio,

The ward didn't have any hot water for a short time on the morning you are referring to, however, the facilities team were made aware of the issue straight away and it was rectified ASAP and we made provisions for this short period to ensure all hygiene standards were maintained.

All of the elective wards are very busy, especially in the morning and we are very sorry that you feel that the HCAs were over worked and the nurses not necessarily attentive enough. We do monitor the wards and admin stations and can only apologise that this was what you experienced with us.

It is great however, to hear your positive and kind words with regards to your surgeon and that your stay was without complication. We wish you a speedy recovery and the best of luck with your new knee!
