"A&E was disgusted by the way my 14 month was..."

About: William Harvey Hospital (Ashford)

Anything else?

I went into A&E today, after being told to take my daughter by nhs direct.

She has chicken poxs, so I'm a mother 4 so well aware of what kids are

Are like when ill have hardly ever had to go to A&E. however my daughter was

With a very high temp that I couldn't get down, I believe she had a fit of some kind

She was very sleepy, her breathing Laboured her heartbeat faster than normal.

When we arrived we til them she had chick poxs so we were moved to a room out the back which I understand. But the room was not what I'd expect in a hospital for children.

After waiting about 40 min's we asked what was going on, someone came in and took her temp, said it was high gave some calpol, after telling us she would have given nurofen, to which we said it says on nhs direct website not to give that with chicken poxs. She made us feel we were being silly. After another 30 min's I went and ask again what was going on, I was was made to feel as if I should just sit and wait even tho we hadn't been told anything. The lady then came back and said she is in line to see the doctor ( there are 2 people in front of her) and that's how things are done there, I said well it would be nice to be told where we stand, even to have been told your waiting to see the doctor by the First Lady. After another 45 min's I went to reception and said I'm gonna take her home, as I'm not getting anywhere here I said I think it's so wrong that a baby so young is left when I think she may have had a fit, she said but she not now! I said that they gave her calpol and hadn't even come back to check if her temp had gone down. She said she would check to see if she was next in, she came back and said someone will take her temp again but she was still in for a wait. At which point I choose to bring my baby home and check her here where she could be in the comfort of her home. I explained that if anything else happened I'd rather go to another hospital where there would hopfully see a baby within 3 hours.

I feel that because she had chicken poxs they weren't interested in checking her.

As things stand she has come home slept a lot seems very weak and uneasy on her feet but I've kept her temp down and hopfully she is getting better.

I believe she did have a fit because of her temp being so high and the tiredness is an effect from this, but I should have had to work that put for myself I should have been seen and someone help me. It was very busy in there but as a mother if I was in there for myself and someone came in with a baby, I woul want for that baby to be seen ASAP even if that meant I was waiting an extra 10 min's.

I'm so dissapointed as I've had 2 baby in the William Harvey, and I child need to stay there for a week and have always been so pleased with them, but A&E was the worst ever!
