"Was told to chase the hospital about by referral"

About: Telford referral and quality service (TRAQS)

(as the patient),

I was phoned by TRAQS after my doctor found blood in my urine 3 successive times. I had a choice of hospitals, Telford or Shrewsbury. I chose Telford being the closest. This was the beginning of December.

I have heard nothing by mid December (the referral was urgent). I phoned TRAQS, they said it had been referred to Telford and suggested I ring appointments at Telford. I did, they had no record of me! Phoned TRAQS again and explained. They came back to me and said I’d been transferred Shrewsbury and wanted me to ring appointments at Shrewsbury. My doctor sorted it out.

I don’t see the usefulness of TRAQS. There was not choice of hospital. They told me to ring hospitals to check on appointments.

Thank you for taking the time to give TRAQS feedback.

I am sorry that you feel TRAQS did not help you.

A referral of this type (haematuria) is actually dealt with as an assessment service by both PRH and RSH. This means that TRAQS send the referral letter electronically to the consultant at the hospital of your Choice. The medical secretary will print off the referral letter and the consultant will decide the best way to proceed with your treatment. Unfortunately TRAQS are unable to book appointments for this type of referral.

If you are still waiting to hear about your appointment and would like TRAQS to look into your referral in more detail please contact me on 01952 580367 and I will be happy to help you.
