"Ward Fittings"

About: Cumberland Infirmary

Anything else?

The ward was clean and tidy, warm and comfortable, the one thing that was disgusting was the state of the curtain fittings that were round each bed, the runners that enabled them them to move were missing.

The bed I was in had eleven hooks on curtains which were not attached to runners and if one more came off the runner that section of curtain would have fallen down.

On mentioning this to ward staff I was told that they were sick of informing management about this problem and until it was sorted was seen to be a distinct lack of privacy was apparent.

Some curtains were held together with clothes pegs to keep them closed and to try to give patients a modicum of of decency

Thank you for raising this with NHS Choices. Our estates manager is looking into this. We provide pegs for the curtains to ensure the privacy and dignity of our patients.
