i felt that when my mum was put on the care of the dying pathway she and us became 'invisible' there was no communication from the staff, personal care and pressure relief were forgotten about overall a very dissapointing time.

Thank you for posting your comment in respect of the care of your mother whilst in Royal Albert Edward Infirmary. We were sorry to learn of your mother experience and that of your family following the commencement of the Integrated Care Pathway (ICP). If you would like to contact the Patient Relations Department at the Trust with details of your mother we would be happy to look into your particular concerns.

However, we would like to share with you that version 12 of the ICP, based on the Liverpool Care Pathway was implemented at Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh NHS Foundation Trust on the 7 January 2013. This was supported by an ongoing education programme for staff from the Palliative Care Team and is a version for the use in the Hospital, the Community and the Hospice. All 3 organisations have worked together in developing the pathway. This will ensure patients and relatives receive a high standard of care despite the environment. There are key changes to include more information for patients and their relatives and guidance for professionals in facilitating patient and relative involvement along with a strong emphasis on communicating the management of expected changes. The Palliative Care team will continue to identify the educational needs of staff to improve end of care life and provide support when required.
