"Worst ever"

About: Queen's Hospital (Romford)

Anything else?

I was admitted by ambulance with chest pains, and spent a while waiting. A doctor tried to put a cannula in- I have had many canulas inserted, and the person carrying this missed the vein, but carried on doing it, and pushing harder and harder, causing extreme pain. I requested 4 times that she stopped it, even by shouting at her, but she kept on pushing it in, and I eventually passed out. This person did not know how to put a cannula in, and did not take any care. Also, took medical tape out of her filthy handbag, and tried to put it over the wound caused by the failed insertion of the cannula. This caused a bruise that lasted for 2 weeks, and is not the stress required when taken in with chest pains.

Dear Alan,

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns about your experience of the Emergency Department at Queen’s Hospital.

I was very concerned to read of your experience and would appreciate the opportunity of looking into the points you have raised. It would be useful if you could provide some more information to enable an investigation to take place.

Should you wish to discuss this matter further please contact a member of the Patient Advice & Liaison Services (PALS) on 01708 435454 or email PALS@bhrhospitals.nhs.uk

Yours sincerely,

Gary Etheridge

Deputy Director of Nursing
