"Laparoscopy December"

Anything else?

Hi,

I had a Laparoscopy in December at St Mary's Hospital on 11th December 2012. I was told to arrive at the ward at 11am, and starve from 7am that morning. I was not giving a bed until 4pm that day. My operation went ahead and i was taken back to the ward at 5:45pm. During my time on the ward i was not once checked on, my partner had to get my water and food as no nurses or doctors came to check on me. At 8:45pm a nurse finally came around to release me and give me some pills. Still during this 3 hour wait i was not checked on once.

I was given a post operation appointment for 4th Feb 2013, it was then cancelled to 4th March 2013 and i've recently got another cancellation to 22nd April 2013 - Why? Its terrible service. After my operation whilst on the ward, i was not told anything bout my operation, i wasn't told the outcome or how it went? Why? Now my appointment has been cancelled yet again!! When am i going to find out how my operation went?

I resorted by going to my local GP who was amazing, unfortunately they were able to tell me alittle about my operation but was unable to find anything else out - My GP was shocked at the service i had received and couldn't believe i wasn't told anything whilst on the ward.

So i am still yet to find out exactly what happened during my operation. I think i ahve been treated terribly, i pay my taxes/NI to be given a service like this?

I am still awaiting 3 weeks for a call back from my surgeon to discuss my operation but still no call back....Very unhappy.

Kind regards

Joanna

I am very sorry for your experience. Unfortunately on NHS Choices it is very difficult to investigate and give you an appropriate response so I would encourage you to contact our PALs department. They will be able to support you in making a complaint if you wish to and chase your appointment and results. I hope that your follow-up care is of the standard you should be able to expect from any NHS hospital. PALs can be contacted on Tel: 020 8308 5449 or Email: slh-tr.qm-pals@nhs.net
