"Maternity Services (Oasis Birthing Centre and..."

Anything else?

I gave birth in January 2013 at the PRUH, and was thoroughly impressed by both the environment and by all of the staff assisting with the birth.

I was initially admitted to the Oasis Birthing Centre. All of the midwives that assisted us at the birthing centre were extremely knowledgeable, very encouraging, and lovely to deal with. The room that we were allocated was spacious, very clean, and very relaxing with a large birthing pool.

Unfortunately due to the baby's position, we had to transfer to the labour ward after around 8 hours. The transfer was carried out very efficiently, and I was comfortable throughout (albeit in pain!). The two midwives who were with us in the birthing centre at that stage accompanied us to the labour ward, and stayed with us throughout our time on the labour ward, which was really comforting.

Once on the labour ward, I was seen very quickly by a registrar, who determined that intervention would be necessary. The theatre team were fantastic. They kept us very involved and informed throughout the process (attempts at ventouse followed by an emergency c section). I was also very impressed by the fact that, although we were taken to theatre, the birthing centre midwives made a real effort to ensure that the parts of our birthing plan that could be realised were (eg. my husband telling me the sex of the baby).

All of the staff were absolutely lovely, and kept us as calm as possible through what could have been a very distressing experience. The standard of medical care was also excellent. We could not fault anyone that we dealt with and would happily go back again/recommend the maternity services at the PRUH.
