"Treatment at the Opthalmology Department Ward H2..."

About: Royal Bolton Hospital

Abosolutely appalling - I am extremely outraged by the level of care I have recieved by the doctor and their secretray. I was seen on my first visit by the doctor who appraoched me with arrogance, infact did not speak to me directly but instead consulted with a junior doctor about my condition. I was given no information about the severity of the condition, I was merely sent away with eyedrops and advised not to wear my contacts for 6 weeks. A return visit to review my condiion was to be sent ot me in the post. On my second visit once again the doctor conferred with the same junior doctor about my condition - using words such as infiltrates, oedema, neovascularisation. At no given time was i advised about my condition and the Dr failed to explain what was going on. Again i was advised to continue using the drops and to return in 3 months times. After a month my vision had become blurry and I was concerned that I was loosing my sight, I went to A&E - where i was seen by a lovely doctor who reassured me that I shouldnt worry and that my eyes were healing and to continue to use the drops. They bought my appointment forward due to my concerns and I returned to see the previous doctor, this was a 1-2-1 consultation whereby I was told the doctor at A&E didnt have clue what they were talking about, that I had developed a dry eye condition and would never be able to wear contact lens's again in my life also that laser eye surgery would not be an option either in the future. I was extremely distraught and received no comfort, they then went on to advise me that I should read a book on cognitive behaviour and start seeing myself in a new light (I hadnt realised that Opthalmologist's were trained counsellors too). I was advised that bloods would be taken and I would need to return after two months. My appointment is on Monday and I rang earlier in the month to obtain my blood test results - I spoke to the secretary, who was extremely rude, unfriendly and unhelpful in every way. When I asked for my results I was told I couldnt have them until I had seen the Dr again, after pleading with them they went to say that they would get my file and promised to ring me back, that didnt happen so i called back after a week. One of the test results came back normal, the other had been sent away to Oxford and had not been returned yet, they told me to call back at a later date. I called back this morning and spoke to the secretary again who was very unhelpful, unaccommodating and uncooperative. The level of service provided by this department is the worst I have ever seen, to say that they are supposed to be providing patient care is embarassing and disgraceful. Im a young female and can help myself, however for those such as the elderly, I dread to think how they are treated. I would never recommend anyone to be seen by this particular Opthalmologist.
