"I spent the majority of my stay extremely distressed and scared by the staff "

About: Southend Hospital / Accident and emergency Southend Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I have been admitted to Southend University Hospital 3 times in 9 days with severe abdominal pain and heavy bleeding. On my most recent admission in A&E a nurse was asked to chaperone an internal exam, this nurse came into the cubicle and looked at me whilst I was crying in pain during a very intimate examination and seemed to be laughing at me. I was disgusted she left the room laughing at me and then I understand went on to make jokes about me to her friend which my partner witnessed.

I was distraught and in pieces when transferred to the wonderful Chalk Well Ward who are full of respect and can't do enough for their patients. Unfortunately I was then transferred to the Eastwood Ward where the staff I met made remarks about me being back and suggested my problem was in my head. The same staff refused to change my bed sheets when they were due changing, left me without water for 2 hours whilst so high on medication I couldn't ask and didn't monitor my obs regularly despite an extremely high blood pressure. They also told me they needed my bed and to go home and not to abuse the A&E system by coming back.

I spent the majority of my stay extremely distressed and scared by the staff and was then discharged. I am currently at home in severe pain and have severe unexplained heavy bleeding. We are considering a different hospital myself and my family are utterly disgusted by Southend Hospital.
