Anything else?
The care I received over the last week after being admitted on 14 jan 2013 was the best I could have expected. Experiencing severe abdominal pains numerous tests samples and finally a CT scan identified a perforated bowel - my consultant was totally honest and factual with a caring approach when he advised late evening that part of the large bowel would have to be removed within hours or I would die- having been operating since early morning he made sure he was happy with the skills of the surgeon who would carry out the operation or return himself to do it. The asst surgical registrar spoke with me prior to performing the operation and his manner put me at ease immediately. I left theatre at about 5am and spent 2 days in bay 5 level 9 where the staff had many serious conditions to deal with day and night without respite but still gave me attention and care when needed, unfortunately lack of sleep hampered my recovery and I was moved to bay 1 level 9 where the hard working nursing staff and the consultant's very professional team were superb in getting me to a point where I could be discharged just a week after admission. Nothing was too much trouble, rest was easier and the genuine encouragement from all to retain a positive approach was incredible. My sincere thanks to all concerned for giving me a true new lease of life.
