"A little empathy would go a logn way"

About: Hampshire PCT / Emergency dental service

(as the patient),

It's nearly a year since my four extractions took place, the plate is a little more comfortable thanks to the periodontist putting a liner in it. I can still only manage it for short times as it makes me gag and I have to take it out. I'm sure my gums have shrunk so much that I really needed a new plate, I am having to put fixadent in 3 times a day still. I wonder if swallowing this stuff is safe? Prob hear a health warning about it in years to come.

The dentist asked me if I wear the plate, I replied I think I might lose my job if I didn't wear it. I work with the public sector, I did get a chuckle out of her young apprentice when I said I'd scare people away. However some times I feel like giving up my job and staying home toothless! !

There has been a decision to take about another 7/8 teeth out in about 3 weeks time.

if I had not of persisted with my dentist would my gum disease become worse I ask myself. Why do some people working in caring professions including dentistry appear so apathetic towards their patients? A smile, a little warmth, a little empathy would go a long way.

We will see how the next lot of treatment brings in a few weeks.
