"SOME unhelpful nurses at Nottingham's QMC"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

Last week I had an operation on my knee. I was very nervous and had to stay over night. My surgeon was fantastic, very re-assuring and patient, as were the anaesthethists. The 2 nurses who took care of me in recovery were also fantastic, very comforting, reassuring, kind and caring. However, when I returned to the ward this great care seem to disappear. MOST of the staff, (certainly not all as the younger nurses and student nurses were great) but the others were rude, unhelpful, very abrupt and unapproachable. Each time I rang my buzzer I felt I was a burden, yet it's there job to help me as I was bed bound for 24 hours! It was very upsetting as I really felt I needed support and reassurance but didn't get much of this at all. They didn't seem as though they wanted to help or had the time. I know it is a very hard and demanding job but if you don't like the job don't do it!!It's just a shame that people who are responsible for the care of others can be so rude and unapproachable because the main things you need during a stay in hospital is friendly, welcoming, caring and helpful staff.

However, as I said this does not go for all the nurses because some of them were very friendly and helpful and made me feel secure and comfortable and I really thank those staff for helping me last week and getting me through my operation.
