Anything else?
My 78 year old Mother had a urology operation. She took in her own medication which was put in a locker next to her bag. They remained in her bag. The morning after her operation she was given drugs and said to the nurse doing the drugs round that she did not recognize a certain drug. The nurse insisted that the drug was for her. My mother again said she did not recognize it. The nurse again said the drug was for her. When my Mother looked in her bag in the locker she found a box of Gabapentin which had a males name on it!. She told a member of staff that said they would send it back to Pharmacy. When my Mother arrived home in her bag where she kept her own medication she found a silver strip of Gabapentin with 4 tablets and 6 missing. I rang the ward and the sister was not available but was told she would return my call. She did not. I then received a call from Pharmacy telling me my Mother was not written up for Gabapentin and would not of been given it as she would of only received what was on the drug chart and advises it was Paracetamol. I said that the drug was found in her locker and she has returned home with some to which i was told the locker was initially for some one else so the tablets were left in there. I am not entirely satisfied my Mother did not take the Gabapentin, however even if she did not why could the registered Nurse doing the drugs round just of said it is Paracetamol which would of saved a lot of unnecessary worry and upset for my Mother who is recovering from Surgery and a procedure for bladder cancer.
