In September 2009 I underwent minor surgery in the Maxillofacial clinic, St Richard’s Hospital for what was then thought to be a rodent ulcer on my face below my eye.

My following visits to the hospital were to see the Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at St Richard’s Hospital. At our first meeting I became very distressed as the seriousness of the disease sank in and fearful at the thought of what lay ahead of me. The consultant was kindness itself and very reassuring.

The consultant continued to be thoughtful and kind by ensuring I knew that the result of the subsequent CAT scan showed no sign that the cancer had spread and by sending me copies of all correspondence so that I was always kept informed. He then performed excellent surgery to remove the tumour. His careful planning and skill in performing the surgery ensured that the malignant area was totally removed with very little evidence of the extent of the surgery, despite there being over thirty stitches.

The care I received in November 2009 and the continuing care and monitoring by the consultant at the Henry Clinic in the Dermatology Department has been first class and I will be forever grateful to him for his skill and kindness.

Additionally, the care and support of a doctor in Deramatology and the whole team has been, and continues to be, excellent too.
