Anything else?
I recently stayed on ward S2 for an overnight stay. This was my third such stay recently and for the first time I was in a 4 bed bay, rather than a single room. The other 3 ladies were elderly with one being totally bedridden, another not speaking English. I was lucky to be ambulent, have people to visit me and have some entertainment with me. The bedridden lady was not so lucky. She had no visitors and all she did was lie in her bed, ocassionally calling out to people to talk to her. She seemed to be in dispair. There was not even the provision of radio in the bay to give some distraction from loneliness.
Young people today have electronic devices so you can listen to music, read, play games etc, etc, but elderly people don't have such things, but yet no provision is made for their mental stimulation. To my shame I was concentrating on myself and didn't realise there was a problem till shortly before my leaving the ward.
"Good treatment for me, but not so great for others"
