"2 year old Toddler with head wound forgot about."

About: Wansbeck Hospital

Anything else?

I visited the A&E departed with my daughter and my partner on the 12th of January at 18.36pm.I was seen and registered from the front desk rather quickly and sat down and waited to be seen. Whilst we were waiting to be seen three grown adult men came in with their injuries/queries and as time went on these three men were one by one were beginning to be assessed before my daughter!! By the time the third man was being called out and being taken to the assessment room I'd had enough and from the look on my face must of alerted the assessment nurse as she queried why we were sitting there and had we not been called out yet. To this ladies credit she left her patient in the assessment room and went to check on where our daughter's paperwork was. She came back moments later and explained to us that the paperwork had not been sent down to the children's assessment ward. Why was this?

Whilst we eventually get down to the assessment ward we are seen too by a lovely nurse who calms my daughter down and takes her vitals and assess her head wound and explains that a doctor or nurse will come along shortly to clean the wound up and probably glue it together. Perfect we thought as we sat down in the childrens area @ 19.48pm. Time went by again my daughters growing restless and is wanting a drink/food. No doctor calls us through, time ticks on,daughters becoming naughty and even more restless. Then @ 20.44pm a nurse queries are all the patients been seen to? To which I hear my daughters name, then the same lovely nurse who assessed my daughter in the first place goes next door retrieves my daughters file and calls us in to the room again. This nurse then proceeds to explain clean and glue my daughters head together which was a few minutes procedure and alas we were on our way! I wasn't expecting VIP treatment whilst at the hospital and knew I had to wait but to wait over 2 hours for a 2 year old to get her head wound sorted was to me an absolute disgrace! The nurses were lovely and very helpful but more communication needs to be had within the department and things like this wouldn't happen and the pointless 1hr and a bit wait could've been avoided as the same nurse who assessed my daughter treated her in a few minutes.
