"Very disheartened about my latest visit to queen..."

Anything else?

I had an appointment at Queen Marys today for my 21wk ultrasound and I am very disapointed with the level of care received by my sonographer, I would firstly like to state this is my fourth pregnancy I've had all my children at Queen Marys and even though I knew I was unable to have the birth there I was happy enough to just have my midwife care there any way paid to have an ultrasound at 16 wks mainly because of the pain I have been feeling they detected a baby girl plus 2 fibroids I've never had these b4 and this may be the cause of my pain my midwife discussed with me about fibroids and said there is little they can tell me until my next ultrasound at 21wks so we can see if there growing or not which I had today so I have waited 5wks for this scan and have been very anxious, my sonographer started by looking through my notes and discovered the earlier pictures and measurements, then began the ultrasound by measuring the fibroids i only knew because I could see this on my screen then she told me you have 2 fibroids which is irrelevant because of there location so my response was so what does that mean she said we'll it doesn't matter because there not near the baby so I said we'll have they grown she said yes I then had to ask what there size was she said we'll one is about 5cm I could not get a direct answer, I asked said my last ultrasound told me this was a little girl can you confirm this and her response was well that is not what I am here for today feeling lime I was asking questions I shouldn't be in kept quiet then we were having trouble getting a good photo of baby's face because her hands covered it the sonographer then told me the problem is because I am overweight, by this time I felt quite insulted then she said I'm just going to lift the bed a little to see if this moves baby so I said ok that's fine well she pressed the button and my lower body was rising with my feet in the air and im holding onto the bed trying my hardest not to let go because I was slipping backwards head first! So now I know that my baby girl is fine and the ultrasound is complete I thought I would ask one more time if she managed to see that it was definitely a little girl and she replied well I didn't see anything to suggest otherwise still not a straight answer by this time I just wanted to hurry and leave I certainly was not feeling at ease or relieved in any way and when I got home I was quite upset which is why I decided to write this post.

Response from Queen Mary's Hospital Sidcup

I am very sorry for your experience at the Trust and with this particular sonographer. We expect our staff to show empathy and be kind and polite to patients in their care. It is very disappointing when patients do not feel they have received the consideration they should have been able to expect. I wish you all the best for your pregnancy and hope that your on-going care meets your expectations and ensures that you are well looked after.
