"Multiple Allergies and Lyme Disease"

About: Surrey PCT

(as the patient),

I started to suffer from severe fatigue a number of years ago. I was offered no diagnosis or treatment on the NHS.

After 2 years by chance I found out I had a sensitivity to wheat. As I removed wheat from my diet my health started to improve. With help from a private hospital I found other foods I was allergic to and eliminated them from my diet.

Thinking that was all that was wrong with me I started to try to get pregnant and start a family. When my children were born I gradually realised that they were chronically sick. Again I received no support from the GPs. I sought help from the private hospital who help me understand and manage their multiple allergies.

As I was again suffering from fatigue and I wanted to understand if there was an underlying condition which my children had inherited I paid for testing to done and came up positive for Lyme. My GP has reluctantly agreed to get my children tested for Lyme. She was annoyed that I was asking for tests and potentially a referral.

I have spent thousands of pounds for my children and my treatment and will have to continue to do. GPs I have met seem to have a very poor understanding of common complaints such as allergies, fatigue conditions and Lyme disease. I have found them a constant barrier to obtaining adequate health care and treatment. The Internet is much better informed and accurate.
