"Policies at Mental Health Hospital"

About: Midpark Hospital / Adult Mental Health (inpatient)

(as the patient),

I thought I would share this with you which I think is an absolutely disgusting way to be treated. It in no way is helping my mental health recovery.

I was due to be taken into a mental health hospital on in early January to have my medication changed. I am also suffering with many many physical problems.

We went to go into the hospital only to see that visiting hours, which were very good the last time I was in hospital, now match the visiting hours of the local NHS general hospital of only 3 hours per day.

Also there is a strict visitors not allowed in patients bedrooms policy even in this 3 hour slot! When the hell did this come in? How in God's name do they think the denial of family near people is going to help with recovery of the person? Let alone one with severe physical health problems?

As I had many disabilities, I was hoping that my partner and my children would be able to visit me in my bedroom for privacy and for showering purposes, I did not want anyone else showering me at all.

If I have a terrible day I cannot always move from my bedroom, therefore I would have been denied my family visit which totally contravenes human rights and equality acts legislation.

I just thought you should know what is going on in this hospital. I said no to going in to the hospital and am trying now to deal with all this at home, with a crisis team who do not seem too bothered either as my family obviously are caring well enough (so they are the ones who have to lock away all the medication etc). When the psychiatrist found out the crisis team were not actually visiting me at home every day as I come off this drug and go on to my new one she was not best pleased either! I am petrified of ever being sectioned or having to go in because I am so ill, I would rather commit suicide than ever go in there again now these so call "better" policies are in place... perhaps somebody needs to look into this and find out what the hell is going on and why whoever made these rules can so blatantly contravene human rights legislation and go against the Equality act 2010?

This is not just a rant of someone who is ill, I am scared this is going to happen to others as well and that is is happening to others! My partner witnessed all of this too.

To top it all, non of the room which are all lovely and en suite now have grab rails for the disabled and neither do the outside general disabled toilets, so obviously physically disabled people do not get mental health illness? ? ? ?

What can be done? You tell me? ?
