"Mixed experiences of the Archway Centre"

About: Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust / Adult mental health

(as the patient),

I couldn't actually find the Archway Centre building to start with, it's very discreet, which didn't help, though I can see why this is necessary.

I also felt self conscious standing waiting for the door to be opened with people walking past - my appointments were for 9:05 and I often pushed the bell and didn't get a response, and would often be trying to open the door thinking it was open. Once a staff member came to work so I got in through following her, but she didn't acknowledge me at all, given that we are attending this building due to stress, that didn't help at all.

I found several of the receptionists really cold and unfriendly, and once you're inside you have to speak through a section on the window, which being quietly spoken and self conscious, just heightens the stress levels - and all this before you've started the therapy.

Leaving the building after therapy thankfully is easier, as you can walk straight out - and as we're usually more distressed after therapy (I had often been crying) this is a blessed relief - but as mentioned by other people, if people know of the building and it's purpose, you just feel shame. One good thing though is the fact that you can park, given I live 5 miles away, and had to attend weekly for over 7 months, I can't imagine the time and expense not having a car would have incurred as I work full time.

One of the therapists was rather cool and matter of fact (said to me "but don't you think we all have problems at times?") but 3 others I received help from were all lovely.

I am OK now, but on 2 occasions I did end the therapy myself, but for personal reasons.
