What could be improved
When I had my appointment the doctor I saw had not got the results of the echo I had done some weeks before. Also no-one had asked for a 7 day ecg to be carried out (he authorised this). The appointment was therefore a complete waste of time.I was told a letetr would be sent to myself and my GP when the test results were available. 4 months later I finally received a very short non-committal letter. It looked as if the doctor who saw me had forgotten what it was all about
1. The echo service needs to speed up its reporting, so that results are available when the patient is seen by a doctor. In another hospital which I have attended echosare carried out immediately before the appointment and the report written as soon as they are completed so that the patient has it to take to the doctor. 4 months is as ridiculous length of time to wait fora report
2. If reports are not available at the time ( as in this case), the patient should be offered another appointment to discuss the result.s, not just sent a vague, non-committal letter months later
"The system is totally unsatisfactory"
