"admitted and discharged to ari 4 times, very ill and dehydrated, "

I had surgery at aberdeen royal infirmary at the end of last year. I was very ill afterwards with signs of infection, was discharged and given antibiotics from gp which worked for 3 weeks until suddenly got very ill again with same symptoms (vomiting, ear ache, fever shaking etc).

I visited local a&e, gp surgery and ari a&e numerous times and given numerous antibiotics by numerous doctors (bloods and urine showing infection each time) which weren't working. I finally found a very good gp who clearly saw I wasn't well, by this time I hadn't eaten for 3 and a half weeks, was becoming confused, pressure in my head and eyes, eyes had sunken and had darkness round them, had lost a stone and a half in weight, constantly vomiting with nothing to come up (completely couldn't eat no matter how much I tried) and passing pure blood in urine. I thought the problem would be sorted this time but was very wrong!

I was discharged 3 hours later.

Finally got iv fluids on 4th time admitted and felt a big difference! My body was obviously very dehydrated and lacking in nutrients, can't believe they didn't notice this! I was told they wouldn't do scans etc as they said it was bank holiday/weekend and couldn't be switched on. Finally got it done when admitted 4th time (and hopefully last) when they grew culture to find correct antibiotics.

Even when gp's were admitting me on phone it felt like they were trying to put them off. Visited local nurses etc who obviously thought it was in my head and asked me if I was sure I wasn't just 'anxious'or having an anxiety attack! I've always been very healthy and stayed away from doctors as much as possible. It didn't help that we had just moved to a different area and these people didn't know me like my previous gp (who I'd never been to all the time I was registered with her).

I am very disappointed at my treatment and feel as though I was completely fobbed off, discharged numerous times when I shouldn't have been and was obviously very ill and dehydrated which went unnoticed.

Still don't know what happened, know I had a bladder infection but think I also may have caught the norovirus at same time. I didn't want to bother doctors or be ill in hospital, I just wanted to be better and back to normal, I was physically and mentally exhausted!

Most of the nurses were really nice but were understaffed. People know their bodies and know when something isn't right, doctors and consultants should listen to them and their families when they tell them this.

Still feel I was discharged too early, am just starting to eat and feel better now and hoping I don't have to go through anything like this again! !

I feel very badly let down by ARI and the system and really hope that things can improve very soon so that other patients dont have to suffer this way.
