What I liked
I'm not really sure what to put here but I guess overall, the treatment my daughter received was adequate although..
What could be improved
Having taken my 14 month old daughter into hospital via an ambulance with suspected meningitis, arriving at 8pm with no money on me at all.. I was pretty much left to my own devices untill my father arrived at 11am the following morning. During this time I wasn't offered any type of refreshment, hot beverage or anything..
Less than 48 hours later I was asked not to leave my daughters bedside because the doctor was making his rounds and needed to consult with me regarding the results of my daughters blood test, Apparently he would be there around tea-time. I waited patiently.. then waited some more and was later,. (8:30-9pm) confronted by the doctor only to be told the blood tests weren't back yet. By which time the nearby restaurant was now closed and I was unable to get anything to eat or drink.
From my own personal experience I feel the total lack of compassion for the well being of a patients main carer to be totally unacceptable. I don't live locally to the hospital and do not have my own transport so I was totally cut off from any way of leaving if I had even wanted to abandon my daughter so that I could eat.
I believe that the Staff and whoever sets the Rules or Legislations should learn how to care a little more about the people who bring in patients for care such as the parents of young children, and understand that they may also have needs too.
Don't get me wrong.. I fully understand that their main concern at the time was my daughters welfare but it would have made me a lot more relaxed if they had stopped to consider my feelings and needs during a very distressing time for myself and my child.
