"Do not rely on the nurses to look after you at..."

About: Northern General Hospital

What I liked

The A&E staff were very good and the emergency admission was handled well. The Surgical Admission Unit worked well and tests were undertaken when planned.

What could be improved

The arrangements for discharge were a shambles, there was no planning with carers to ensure a timely and safe discharge. The drugs brought in got lost so discharged without any drugs, family had to return late at night to eventually collect the drugs. Nurses had no idea what drugs should be given and lied when asked about what doses had been taken on the day of discharge. After three days in a hospital bed a request for a shower before going home was denied after a commitment had been given to give a shower. Without family support re admission would have been inevitable

Anything else?

This is not the first time poor nursing care has been experienced at this hospital. The nurses seem more interested in chatting with each other and oblivious to the consequences for patients.
