"Flabbergasted!"

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

Anything else?

I attended the Gynaecology outpatients for a follow up appointment on 17/12/12 following a hysteroscopy. The consultant advised that the only real way forward from here was a total abdominal hysterectomy which should take around 3 months to heal and get me back to work. We discussed this at length as I run my own business and would have to shut down and having agreed to the procedure, I enquired about how long the waiting time would be for the operation and was advised that because I had been under their care for so long the op should be scheduled mid january at the very latest, but as the dates hadnt been released, they would contact me before christmas eve to arrange this. My husband and a student doctor were both in the room during this consultation and heard the entire conversation.

Christmas and New Year came and went, still no contact. I had worked completely over this last 2 weeks to get everything ready for the operation, closed my business and rescheduled all my clients for April when I should be back up and running.

I called the consultant secretary on 31/12/12 and then again this morning 02/01/13 as I still had not been contacted, and was informed that the secretary had just found out that the consultant had been very sick and hospitalised over the christmas period and the secretary could only access a letter the consultant had written to my GP saying they had referred me for surgery but no dates wriiten. when the booking administrators looked into a surgery date for me, they informed me that I had been put on the routine operation list and would be scheduled for April!!

So I have prepared not only my business to be shut down between now and April, but have prepared emotionally to have this procedure only to find out that it will not be for another 3 months!

The consultant secretary was very nice and I understand their hands are tied but I need answers!! The booking admin werent very helpful either. I have already had my pre-op and consent forms completed.
